Local Area River Trips

N.J. Department of Environmental Protection Division of Parks & Forestry
(Check in here for current conditions, information & updates on Wharton State Forest.)
All rates above include fees for rental boat(s), paddle(s), PFD(s) and transportation to and from starting & end points. Upgraded equipment is available for an additional cost. All rates include fees except tax.
*Prices are subject to increase without notice.*

All times are approximate as paddling time will vary, depending on the paddler's experience and water levels. Add additional time for any stops made along the way. Kayak times are usually shorter than canoe times.
The upper sections of all the rivers are always more shallow than the lower sections, and after extended dry periods may not be canoeable. The upper Mullica and Batsto Rivers are always less crowded than the Wading and Oswego Rivers. The lower Mullica is wide, tidal and is often used by power boats during summer weekends.

Alcoholic beverages are NEVER permitted on the rivers nor at the campsites. Rangers do patrol, and violators can be fined and arrested. Pets are permitted on the rivers, inside of boats, during the day. In addition, pets are permitted at several WSF campsites overnight (including Goshen Pond, Batona Camp, Lower Forge, and Hawkins Bridge) if the pet owners present proof of up to date vaccinations. Permits for campsites along the Wading River are obtained at Batsto. Permits for the Mullica and Batsto River campsites may obtained either at Batsto or the Atsion Ranger Station. Fire permits are only issued when conditions are suitable, so you should always have an alternate cooking means such as propane or Coleman stove. It is recommended that you reserve your camping permit in advance.
